At Platanotopos near the Maistros stream, the Municipality of Alexandroupoli established the Natural History Museum, a place of introduction and information for ecosystems of the surrounding area. The building was designed as a triangular wedge, which rises from the ground with an accessible ramp – roof, from where the entire area can be seen.
TETRAGON, apart from participating in the architectural design of the building, also took over the Museographic organisation and implementation of its interior. In this way, the building and its permanent exhibition were planned concurrently. The project was distinguished in a Panhellenic Architectural Competition by SADAS at the Benaki Museum. The museum was designed as the centre of a public recreation and ecological awareness area.
The exhibition areas are made up of distinct sections for land, wetland and sea ecosystems, with projection rooms and photographic documentation of human activities.
The Museum graphics, done with the collaboration of COLIBRI Ltd, got two EVGE awards in 2003 (Greek Awards for Graphic Design and Illustration).
