Promoting the maritime cultural heritage with the development of an integrated platform of 3D digital representations of historical ships.
The aim of the project is the creation of three-dimensional digital representations, from ships of earlier times, for which there are sufficient original materials for their complete representation (drawings, photographs, technical descriptions, three-dimensional natural scale models , etc.).
The project highlights and reflects the carpentry tradition of the Greeks, which was one of the largest chapters of technical civilisation and the historical importance of sailing in shipping from the middle of the 18th until the middle of the 19th century.
The complete results of Virtual Historic Sailing Ships is contained in the traveling exhibition «Από τον αϊνά στην πλώρη: Ιστιοφόρα του 18ου και 19ου αιώνα», which was completed and presented at the final stage of the project, combining scientific documentation, cutting-edge digital technologies and modern audiovisual and interactive means.
The project was implemented within the National Scope Action "Open Innovation in Culture" and was co-funded by the European Union and national funds through the National Program Competitiveness, Entrepreneurship & Innovation (EPAnEK 2014-2020) and ESPA 2014-2020. Project code: Τ6ΥΒΠ-00200.
