Development of an integrated interactive platform for virtual underwater experiences, addressed to cultural and tourism entities
The project’s scope is the development of an integrated interactive platform that provides tours in natural (augmented reality techniques) and virtual (virtual reality techniques) environments, in areas of tourist and environmental interest (e.g. unique geomorphological structures, shipwrecks, sunken harbors and settlements, marine parks, NATURA areas etc.), in order to enrich the travel experience and promote special forms of tourism.
An indicative application of the programme took place on the island of Santorini, featuring three routes, where visitors with the use of VR and AR technologies, have the possibility to take a tour and navigate along the terrestrial landscape of the caldera and its settlements, as well as in the underwater environment and Kameni, the volcanic cone of the island.
